Stress and Depression

Are you currently so stressed that it’s causing depression? Don’t feel all alone.

Quite a few people are experiencing problems coping with the stress filled events and issues bombarding our lives. When stress develops, it triggers a “fight or flight” response within our brains and, if it occurs on a constant basis, your whole body and mind may well begin to display signs of stress depression.

When this type of chronic stress comes about, it might overwhelm you, resulting in depression symptoms like swift changes in moods, lethargy and problems working or attending classes. You may find it hard to keep on with an ordinary routine. But, stress and depression together might be controlled by learning a few coping skills and taking better care of yourself.

Coping skills you will wish to take advantage of include meditation, exercise routines, including the stretching and breathing procedures that yoga provides. Consuming too much alcohol and drug use definitely add to the causes of stress depression, so try to develop a healthier lifestyle by avoiding these stress inducers and trying to eat healthy foods that boost your body’s immune system instead of bring it down.

Stress Depression is reduced by serotonin

Scientific studies have proven that a chemical named serotonin manages the part of the brain which induces depression. If your brain isn’t making sufficient serotonin, you could feel sad, lose sleep or sleep a lot and develop other, more severe, symptoms of stress and depression. There may be other factors for depression, but insufficient serotonin could be a major cause. Read the rest of this entry »

US Depression

Do you have a friend who seems to have lost her zest for life? Maybe she seems sadder than usual or unable to enjoy her everyday activities? If she also has been experiencing a change in sleep patterns, appetite, and seems generally low in energy, she could be suffering from clinical depression.

About a quarter of all adults will experience a bout of clinical depression at some point in their lives. Depression is more than simply feeling moody or upset about a negative event. People who are depressed tend to not be able to love, focus, or work effectively. As the friend of someone who is depressed, you may have to experience a less-than-ideal friendship for a while, but supporting her is more important than ever. Here are five things to keep in mind when comforting a depressed friend:

Don’t Try To Fix It  While it’s good to offer help to your friend, don’t try to immediately fix the problem. You may find yourself making suggestion after suggestion and getting impatient when your friend doesn’t want to comply. Everyone has their own process when they navigate depression, and it may be a while before your friend is ready to actively work on her recovery. Ask her, “What’s the best thing I can do for you right now?” If her answer is “nothing,” that’s okay. Sometimes the best way to help someone who’s depressed is to do nothing. Just make sure you make yourself available to her when she’s ready, and remember that only she can take the necessary steps to work through her depression – you can’t fix it. Overcoming Depression Quickly

Sunshine

The two most significant things in overcoming depression rapidly and naturally, without drugs, are working out, and natural light. Seems too simple? Well, yes and no. You see, anytime a person is getting depressed, something as basic as getting up to answer the phone can be a problem. The commitment is just not there. You just don’t seem to have the energy or desire to make yourself move. But a little sunlight and a bit of exercise can work wonders.

Overcoming Depression with power of the sun

First of all, whatever it takes, force yourself to get up and get out of the house. Do it even if its cold, wear a coat if you have to, but get outside. Exposing yourself to sunlight boosts the bodies levels of serotonin. Serotonin acts like a neurotransmitter and one of its functions is elevation of mood. The nice thing about this is that its all free. All you have to do is get to where you can feel the sun and nature will take over. Its all natural and you are going to feel better very soon.

Overcoming Depression with the power of the human body

Now let’s move on to the other thing you must do to feel better and that is exercise. Some people consider this a dirty word and don’t want to talk about it at all. In fact, it appears that there are two very different camps when it comes to exercise. One camp has the people that can’t stand it, think it is highly over rated and don’t want to talk about it. These folks practically have to be tricked into any exercise more strenuous than walking from their car to the door. These are also the same folks who hunt endlessly for the parking space closest to the mall entrance. Read the rest of this entry »
